As Rio 2016 Olympics takes place throughout August, the Dublin Horse Show has moved forward from its traditional dates but the schedule is as jam-packed with exciting events and the world’s top riders as ever. The sun has been shining on the Ballsbridge venue and the RED MILLS Team are having a busy time in Simmonscourt.

The main arena’s events got underway at 8am with the Horse Sport Ireland sponsored six year-old qualifier which was won by Ireland’s Peter Smyth. The opening international class, The Speed Stakes, was won by Aramius 573 ridden by Cian O’Connor. This horse was crowned Connolly’s RED MILLS International 7 & 8 Year Old Champion in 2014. Also featuring in the top six of this extremely competitive Speed Stakes was three of our RED MILLS Ambassadors Bertram Allen, Billy Twomey and Darragh Kenny who have a number of their top horse’s onsite.

The Dublin Horse Show Opening Day

The show’s opening day is always an exciting day for us. This is not only because we’re busy welcoming visitors to our stand and seeing our great team of RED MILLS Ambassadors, it is also the first qualifier in the CSI International 7 & 8 year-olds which took place at 6pm in Simmonscourt. From four qualifiers throughout the season Irish based riders qualified their talented young horses for this prestigious class. The start list also included International riders from eight countries featuring RED MILLS Ambassadors Marlon Modolo Zanotelli, Bertram Allen, Scott Brash and Edwina Tops-Alexander.

It was talented Junior rider Michael Pender who was victorious in the Simmonscourt sunshine with HHS Hercules. The stallion owned by Kilkenny based Miguel Maria Bravo completed his round in 63.41 seconds over a second ahead of Cian O'Connor with Excellent B and two seconds ahead of third placed Philip McGuane and LVS Wizard.

With day one over there is still lots of activity to look forward to.  Many spectators’ favourite classes are scheduled for later on such as the Puissance, Pony Showjumping Finals and many Showing classes which are the pinnacle of the season for equine enthusiasts.

Looking Forward at the Dublin Horse Show

On Friday, Ireland the 2015 Aga Khan Champions will be hoping to retain the trophy for another year. All eyes will be on the five man squad featuring RED MILLS Ambassadors Darragh Kenny and Bertram Allen. We’ll have Bertram on our stand on Thursday afternoon and we’d love for you to pop in to visit us at stand number, SHP6.

Saturday will see Sir AP McCoy joining the judging panel for the Racehorse to Riding Horse class which features racing stars such as Forpadydeplasterer, Zaidpour, Arvika Ligeonniere, and Mossbank which is sure to draw in the crowds.

Five days of equine events will draw to a close on Sunday evening after The Longines International Grand Prix of Ireland in the main arena. Best of luck to all of our RED MILLS Ambassadors that are competing this week.

We’d love to see you all in Simmonscourt! We’ve got special show offers, competitions and of course our nutrition team are on hand to discuss your horse’s dietary requirements to ensure that your horse has everything they need to perform at their best. If you can't make it to the stand feel free to send our RED MILLS nutrition team your questions.
