Kilkenny Man and Part Time Breeder – Philip Byrne Hits Jackpot with €11,000 Sale for First Born Lamb.

07 August 2017

Philip Byrne of Limepark House, Windgap, Co. Kilkenny had a successful start to his venture into pedigree suffolks at the South of Ireland Suffolk Sheep Society Premier Show and Sale at Roscrea Mart on Saturday, the 5th of August.

A Scottish Breeder paid €11,000 for his first born lamb that was from the initial three ewes purchased from the flock of Susan O'Keeffe at Mallow two years ago. This was to become the foundation of his flock of five ewes.

The Suffolk was the 3rd last lamb into the ring from an entry of 165 ewes and rams. With only a scatter of the audience still remaining, it was truly a remarkable milestone for Philip’s journey into the pedigree industry.

Philip described the sale as being “unbelievable” and stated that the lamb had been fed on RED MILLS No1 Lamb Starter. Philip said that the sale will “pay for the erection of a shed”.

Congratulations to Philip, from all at RED MILLS.
